Perspectives

"The grass is always greener on the other side."

Is it? As far as I'm conceded, you put me up so you couldn't see the other side, so why are you making assumptions someones life is better than yours based on there appearance? One half of me is here for you, the other side of me however is for your neighbor, pretty two faced of me huh? See, with the help of me though I can divide the space between you and your neighbor... But because of you, I have no room to wiggle, or make new friends or even decide if I wan't to be with your neighbor! I'm stuck with the piece of wood to my left and the piece of wood to my right.

Oh great, change... So now you decide it would be nice to paint over me. How would you like that? How would you like to go from black to white, from white to black? Thats what I thought. You put me through a lot though. Little do you know that ever time you paint or seal me I cant breathe until this sticky smelly chemical filled shit you decided would make me "look nice" dries. Thank you for that.

You have go to be kidding me, you got a dog. Now this dog is going to decide it would be nice to take a nice pee, and nice big smelly dump right on top of me so me and all my neighbors can smell it. How would you like that? If there was nothing you could do to control it, you cant speak up about something you don't like, and you sure as hell cant defend yourself against the evils of the world (in this case the god damn puppy) yeah you wouldn't like it now would you? Well this is my day to day life as a fence. Yes, a fence.

Its strange to think of life through the perspectives of objects that you would normally think nothing of. But its even stranger to think of how similar the feelings you make share with this object may be...
On the bright side, when life isn't going your way think hey, atleast I'm not a fence.

  1. People leave me here for years just for their own benefit. While i'm providing you with protection, safety, privacy (whatever your reason for installing me..) you're also just being selfish by leaving me to rot, and i have no way of protesting that. I'll fall apart in the rain and instead of trying to fix me, you'll just replace me with a new one just like me, it's so simple. I don't mean anything to anybody, i'm just a fence.

    1. but when we don't have you, we need you and constantly think when and how we can get you.... But you are right. Once we have you, you know longer become something we are proud of, or something we need.. you just become ordinary, something you would never want to be.

  2. First, very clever perspective piece. Second, I love the comments up above. Consider how your sentiment applies to more thanjust the fence: Once we have something...it just becomes ordinary. That might be an interesting idea to play with and apply to other aspects of life like friendship and marriage and family and privileges and such.
